Eight Filipino fishermen have been killed in an apparent pirate attack in the southern Philippines, say officials cited by Reuters.
A Philippine fishing boat with 15 crew was operating off Laud Siromon island near the Zamboanga peninsula on Monday night when the boat was attacked by five men on a speedboat, said a coast guard spokesman.
