Police in Nigeria's Yobe state say 40 prisoners have escaped after an attack on a prison in the city of Damaturu, reports Agence France-Presse.
Four prison guards were killed in the attack in the country's northeast on Sunday.
Damaturu has been the site of considerable violence of late blamed on the Boko Haram Islamist group, including fighting last week that resulted in at least 40 deaths.
