Foreign Islamist extremists as well as terrorists from Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) are taking advantage of the unrest in Yemen to gain control of southern areas of the country, reports the Washington Post.
Over the past few weeks, the militants have taken over two towns, including Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan province, Yemeni security officials said.
This appears to be the first time AQAP has sought to grab and hold large swaths of territory, said officials. ...
