The Turkish government has received fewer applications to pay for exemption from mandatory military service than expected, says local media cited by Bloomberg News.
Around 22,500 people have applied for the exemption under a law that entered force in December, according to Istanbul's Milliyet newspaper.
The total pool of potential applicants is about 460,000.
