Anti-Missile Systems Needed For Potentially Vulnerable Offshore Gas Platforms

The Israeli military is making plans to deploy missile interceptors on gas rigs expected to be built in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, reports the Jerusalem Post.

The military is concerned that the rigs could be targeted by Hezbollah with anti-ship missiles or explosives-laden vessels.

The navy has pointed in particular to Syria's recent purchase of Russian Yakhont anti-ship cruise missiles, which could be transferred to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
