Another Diesel Sub Commissioned For Navy By German Shipbuilder

The second of two diesel-electric submarines built for the Portuguese navy has been commissioned in Kiel, Germany, reports ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, the builder of the subs.
The Arpao was commissioned on Dec. 22 at the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp.
The Tridente-class submarines are fitted with an air-independent fuel-cell propulsion system and utilize the design of the Type 209 sub with features of the Type 214, company officials said.
