Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov says the Russian armed forces will increase the number of officers by 70,000 next year, reports Interfax-AVN.
More officers are needed to staff the new space defense forces, Serdyukov said.
Over the past two years, the number of military officers was cut from 355,000 to 150,000.
The ministry is also considering a proposal to increase the number of professional soldiers in the armed forces, now set at 330,000.
