Ankara Eyes New Professional Border Force

The Turkish government says it is creating a specialized professional military force to protect its borders, reports the Hurriyet Daily News.
Troops would be assigned to the new force for a period of five to 10 years, according to officials.
The Turkish military still has mandatory conscription as well as professionals. Many conscripts have been killed in the latest round of attacks by the rebel Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
