Senior U.S. defense officials have told lawmakers on Capitol Hill that they might support increasing the role of American military personnel assisting Iraqi forces against the Islamic State, reports the Wall Street Journal.
In testimony this week, Defense Secretary Ash Carter and Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said they were open to the possibility of more risky role for American troops, including directing airstrikes.
