NATO says it has decided to send airborne warning and control system (AWACS) radar aircraft to Afghanistan, Agence France-Presse.
Two aircraft will arrive later this month for a three-month mission, a NATO spokeswoman said on Friday in Brussels.
The AWACS planes are expected to act as mobile traffic control towers to monitor the growing number of aircraft participating in missions over Afghanistan.
