Heavy fighting has been reported in southern Somalia between government forces and Al-Shabaab insurgents, according to the Shabelle Media Network (Mogadishu).
Militants ambushed army troops on Tuesday in the Gof-gaduud area of Bay province, near the provincial capital of Baidoa, said military officials.
At least three people were killed during the battle, which ended with an insurgent retreat, said a witness.
