About 1,200 inmates have escaped from a prison in southwestern Yemen when guards fled amid heavy fighting, reports the Voice of America News.
Thursday's jailbreak in Taiz came after Houthi rebels clashed with local militias allied to Yemeni President Abd Mansour Hadi, said officials.
The Saba state news agency said Al-Qaida supporters attacked the facility. Escapees include Al-Qaida members and other militants and criminals, said officials.
