Members of Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) ambushed a convoy of Algerian paramilitaries on Wednesday near the border with Mali, killing 11, RTT News reports.
The convoy was attacked at dawn while patrolling the town of Tinzaouatine, security officials said.
AQIM claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attackers reportedly escaped after stealing weapons and communication devices from the troops, and setting the vehicles ablaze.
