The Pakistani military has begun a major operation aimed at pushing militants out of the Shawal Valley in the mountainous region of North Waziristan, reports Reuters.
Hundreds of troops were seen heading toward the valley on Friday. The area is said to be the last major stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban (TTP).
The Pakistani military requested help from Afghanistan to prevent the militants from fleeing across the border, said military officials.
