A joint Afghan-international patrol in the Yahya Khel district of Paktika province came under insurgent fire earlier this week, reports NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
The combined force called in air support, directing a precision-guided bomb to the insurgent position, military officials said.
Several insurgents were killed and others were detained, said ISAF officials.
