The last American brigade sent to Afghanistan as part of the surge ordered in December by President Obama has taken command of the eastern part of the country, reports the Wall Street Journal.
The 4th Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, out of Fort Campbell, Ky., is now responsible for the Paktika province, which borders Pakistan.
The first members of the unit began arriving in July and began taking over the next month from the 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.
