The U.S. Air Force has confirmed it will retire 23 of its massive C-5 Galaxy cargo aircraft over the next two years, reports the Macon (Ga.) Telegraph.
Seventeen of the aircraft will be retired in fiscal 2011 and five in fiscal 2012, said an Air Force spokesman.
The move will reduce the C-5 fleet to 89 aircraft, a reduction of approximately 20 percent from its current total of 111, officials said.
