The U.S. Air Force plans to move forward with a new tanker competition to replace its remaining KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft, reports Air Force magazine.
The tanker program, previously known as KC-Y, would bridge the gap in capabilities between the KC-46 Pegasus and a future tanker, known as KC-Z, Air Mobility Command chief Gen. Jacqueline Van Ovost said last week.
