An Israeli F-16 has shot down what was termed a "suspicious object" flying in the airspace over the Dimona nuclear reactor, say military sources cited by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reports.
The flying object appeared to be an unmanned balloon powered by an engine, said the sources.
Witnesses said the fighter fired a missile at the object, reported Agence France-Presse.
The airspace near the reactor is a no-fly zone.
