The Chinese air force has been conducting a drill in the western Pacific, reports Xinhua, China's state news agency.
Planes from the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) flew on Friday through the Bashi Channel and up to 1,000 km (621 mi) past the first island chain, which extends from Japan to Taiwan and the Philippines, said a service spokesman.
the maneuvers are aimed at improving combat abilities over the open sea.
