A Russian military officer has been killed in a parachute accident in western Russia, reports Interfax-AVN.
At the time of the accident on Tuesday near Ryazan, the officer, from the 31st Guard Air Assault Brigade, was using the Arbalet-2 special purpose parachute system, said a spokesman for the airborne forces.
Lt. Gen. Vladimir Shamanov, the head of Russia's airborne forces, suspended use of such parachutes pending an investigation.
