In an unexpected result, the opposition candidate has won Sri Lanka's presidential elections, reports CNN.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa conceded Thursday to Maithripala Sirisena -- a onetime loyalist and minister in Rajapaksa's government. The challenger won 51.3 percent of the vote, while the incumbent obtained 47.6 percent, reported Reuters.
Rajapaksa called the election two years ahead of schedule after eliminating a two-term limit.
