Egypt's ruling military council granted itself sweeping powers ahead of Sunday's presidential election, reports the New York Times.
Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood presidential candidate, declared victory Monday in the weekend runoff election.
The official results have not been released and are likely to be challenged, reported the Guardian (U.K.).
