AeroVironment Awarded First International Contract for LOCUST Directed Energy System

On Sept. 8, 2026, AeroVironment announced its first international purchase order for the LOCUST Laser Weapon System, valued at over US$50 million. The order includes LOCUST systems and support and was followed closely by the U.S. Army’s US$464.8 million Enduring-High Energy Laser production contract.

LOCUST is a high-energy laser system designed to defend against drone threats through directed energy. The system has been tested in several military environments, including operations involving the USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH and Joint Light Tactical Vehicles.
