The European Union has officially opened joint accession talks with Albania and North Macedonia after North Macedonian lawmakers approved a deal to address Bulgarian concerns that were holding up membership negotiations, reports Politico Europe.
On July 16, the North Macedonian Parliament approved a compromise agreement with Bulgaria, including constitutional changes to recognize a Bulgarian minority and measures to protect minority rights and eliminate hate speech.
