Abkykayev Named To Top Post On National Security Committee

President Nursultan Nazarbayev has appointed Nurtai Abykayev to lead Kazakhstan's National Security Committee, reports Itar-Tass (Russia).

He will replace Adil Shayakmetov.

Abykayev, a retired major general, previously headed the committee in 1998-1999 and has also served as Kazakhstan's ambassador to Russia.

For the past two years, Abykayev has served as the first deputy foreign minister.
