Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he will meet North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and restore diplomatic relations, reports Agence France-Presse.
In an annual speech marking the opening of the legislature on Monday, Abe promised to improve ties with North Korea and China.
The prime minister did not announce a timetable or any preconditions for talks.
Relations with China have improved following a visit to Beijing in 2018, he said.
