A top official in the Indonesian navy says the service has sent seven combat vessels to protect the nation's territorial waters around the Natuna Islands in the South China Sea, reports Antara News, Indonesia's national news service.
"This is a routine patrol program carried out by the navy to safeguard Natuna waters." Illegal fishing activities have become more prevalent in the region, said a navy spokesman on Sunday.
