The Russian navy is not likely to field a fifth-generation fighter until after 2020, said the outgoing head of the air forces and air defense forces for the navy, as cited by RIA Novosti.
Military officials have previously indicated the navy could get a fighter based on the Sukhoi T-50 by 2016.
However, that aircraft will first serve with the air force and may be modified for use in naval aviation, said Lt. Gen. Valery Uvarov.
