At least five people have been killed and 20 injured when their vehicle struck a land mine near the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, reports the Vanguard (Lagos).
On Wednesday, a truck carrying farmers and their harvest from nearby fields struck an explosive device planted in the road outside of the town of Addamari, 12 miles (20 km) from Maiduguri, said residents.
Four people died in the initial explosion. Another succumbed to their wounds in the hospital.
The attack was blamed on Islamic State-West Africa Province, a faction of Boko Haram that follows Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi, the son of the group's late founder, Mohammed Youssef.
Last week, ISWAP fighters attacked a military base in the town. Two soldiers and a militiaman where killed in the two-hour battle, said military sources.
