Colombian military officials say four soldiers died when their Black Hawk helicopter landed in a mined area and exploded in the Norte de Santander province, reports the EFE news agency (Spain).
The mines were placed and detonated by members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), according to a Defense Ministry release.
Six others were wounded in the explosion.
Initial reports suggested that the helicopter had been shot down by the rebels.
