More than 200 people have traveled from Germany to Syria and Iraq to fight alongside Kurdish militias against the Islamic State, reports Deutsche Welle, citing figures from the Interior Ministry in Berlin.
Sixty-nine of the 204 are German citizens, said the ministry on Monday. The statistics were provided in response to a query from a lawmaker.
The data did not include those fighting alongside the peshmerga, the armed forces in Iraq's largely autonomous Kurdish region.
