At least 22 Afghan civilians and two Americans have been killed in fighting in Kunduz province on Thursday, reports the New York Times.
One U.S. soldier and a civilian contractor has been taking part in counter-Taliban operations in the city of Kunduz, the provincial capital, said a statement from the U.S. military. Two other Americans were reportedly wounded.
The American troops were advisers to an Afghan military operation, said a spokesman for the U.S. military.
