USS Freedom (LCS-1), the Navy's first littoral combat ship, will deploy early next year, two years before its original plans, the Navy Times reports.
The Freedom had been scheduled to deploy in 2012, but will be sent out early "to close urgent warfighting gaps," said Navy officials.
Freedom will deploy to the U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Central Command regions.
