The British 16 Air Assault Brigade will deploy to Afghanistan in October, reports the U.K. Ministry of Defense.
The rapid-response airborne unit will replace the 4th Mechanized Brigade as the lead British formation in the southern Helmand province, said Defense Secretary Liam Fox.
Headquarters 6 (U.K.) Division will remain as the Headquarters Regional Command South until November.
The 16 Air Assault Brigade will deploy for six months, to be replaced by 3 Commando Brigade.
