The British government has put 1,200 troops on standby to respond to floods in the U.K., reports the Daily Mirror (U.K.).
Three battalions will be on 24-hour standby to help communities in the event of winter storms, announced the government on Tuesday.
The troops will help evacuate flooded communities and install mobile flood defenses. They will be stationed in northern England, the Midlands and southern Englabd.
