For the first time ever, the Indian army has granted permanent commissions to a dozen female officers, reports the Hindustan Times.
The 12 officers, from the legal and education branches, will advance after clearing their promotion boards, reported the Press Trust of India.
Female officers outside of the medical corps have previously only been given limited commissions of five-14 years.
