Jordanian troops say they killed 12 suspected drug smugglers on Sunday who were attempting to infiltrate across the Syrian border, reports the official Jordanian Petra news agency.
The border guards clashed with a group of 36 people along the 233-mile border between the two countries. The exact location of the incident was not identified.
An unspecified number of people were wounded and others escaped back into Syria, according to the Jordanian military website.
