The OLF was an ethnic Ethiopian guerrilla group whose original goal was to create a separate state within the current borders of Ethiopia as a homeland for the Oromo people, Ethiopia’s largest ethnic group. Following disagreements within the group, some factions rejected the separatist goal and favored working on behalf of the Oromo people within a federalized Ethiopia.
