Sweden's frontline combat aircraft is the indigenous Saab JAS 39 Gripen. The Swedish Air Force has requested up to 80 new-build JAS 39E Super Gripens to replace its current fleet of Gripen Cs, but is contractually slated to receive only 60 from 2021 through 2026 under current plans. Once in service, the Gripen E should remain operational through at least 2042.
