Combat Aircraft. In February 2005, the Slovenian Ministry of Defense announced Slovenia was looking to lease F-16 fighter aircraft to patrol its airspace. This was denied by Defense Minister Karl Erjavec in March 2006.
Instead, airspace protection of Slovenia's borders continues to be carried out by the Italian Air Force, although Slovenia's PC-9M trainers are armed.
