Albania remains in a prolonged overhaul of its military to bring its armed forces closer in line with the standards of its NATO peers. After reorganizing its defense forces with any eye on professionalism, it now aims to build niche defense capabilities in order to contribute to NATO operations rather than trying to compete with the well-rounded forces of the larger members of the Alliance.
