Switzerland's armed forces are overwhelmingly conscript-based. The military is geared for territorial defense, with only limited participation in peace-support missions under a U.N. aegis.
Upon mobilization, there are also another roughly 20,400 troops available from the Command Support and Armed Forces Logistics Organizations. There are 134,000-plus reservists, plus 73,000 militia known as Civil Defense. The Army is capable of full mobilization within 48 hours.
