OVERVIEW

After World War I, Montenegro became part of the kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes -- later the kingdom of Yugoslavia. At the end of World War II, it was a republic of communist Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia began disintegrating in 1991. A successor, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), lasted until 2003.
