OVERVIEW

The Austrian Army Air Division (Osterreichische Luftstreitkrafte) is organizationally subordinate to the army. It has three missions: to maintain sovereignty of Austria's airspace; provide support for ground forces; and act in an emergency relief capacity when needed. In addition to army ground-based air defense, the air force has three air defense regiments. Helicopter pilots fly an average of 160 hours per year, while fighter pilots average of 110 flight hours annually.
