The Sultanate of Oman is a Middle Eastern country consisting of a large territory on the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea and a smaller territory on the Musandam peninsula, jutting into the Strait of Hormuz. The Musandam peninsula is separated from Oman proper by a portion of the United Arab Emirates, which extends eastward to the Gulf of Oman. The larger portion of Oman is bordered on the northwest by Saudi Arabia and on the southwest by Yemen.
