OVERVIEW
Ground defense of Oman is complicated by the separation of the nation into two non-contiguous territories. The defense strategy in the northern territory (Musandam Peninsula) emphasizes protection of the Strait of Hormuz, while the southern territory command is tasked primarily with counterinsurgency operations against anti-government rebels who have attempted to infiltrate Oman from Yemen.
The sultan also maintains a private Royal Guard Brigade with 5,000 personnel....
