The commander in chief of the armed forces controls all four components of the armed services – the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Air Defense Command – and is responsible for organization, training, armaments, and combat readiness. In the past, the country's president made final decisions on defense matters, and the armed services and the defense industry came directly under the administrative command of the minister of defense and military production.
