OVERVIEW

Russia and Belarus signed an agreement in February 2009 establishing an integrated regional air defense network -- with five air force units, 10 anti-aircraft units, five support units and an electronic warfare unit. The system is seen as a counter to NATO.

The air force is organized into:

  2 fighter bases
  1 transport base
  2 fighter ground attack/reconnaissance squadrons
  some training regiments
  some attack helicopter squadrons
  some support helicopter...
