Force Structures

The Taliban assumed control of Afghanistan in mid-August 2021. The militant group had fought the Afghan government for around two decades since the U.S.-led ouster in 2001, culminating in a rapid offensive through the country's major population centers that saw only limited resistance from the Afghan military.
